Waking Up

Given the present scenario, one would know that the be-all and end-all of all human problems are related to money. If you can’t match up to the neighbors style of living, it’s a cause to avoid eye-contact when you meet them in the lift. You stop being an idiot when you hold a “smart”phone, and if it is a premium- your intellect gets upgraded by 100 points. Hurray! If you don’t have the resources to show off the charging horses on your tee-shirts, there’s a fair chance that you might be charged off for good. To be a social recluse isn’t fun, so let’s spend more on things that we can afford on a borderline.

I am not saying that it is foul to invest in the things that we usually do. But the worst thing is that we have stopped doing things for ourselves and more for the Social Media. The people who invented the channels where you spill your life details have immortalized their names by doing what they did. While their luxurious lives inspire many to become like them, what we end up doing is imitate the outwardly details instead of trailing in their path of hard work, failures and successes.

So, being a part of a unified group of self-contained humans who come across as loaded train wrecks as a troop might be fun. But those who are wholesome and well-read might know that there’s definitely a lot more to life than that. In shutting ourselves off to a world where the quality of our lives is measured by others, we forget to explore what the world meant for us to see.

My semi-evolved mind holds these ideas out of longing to be appreciated as a human and not as a self-imagined goddess of finery. I aspire to be able to afford the finest things in the world, but hold the finest people even closer. I want to value people for their kindness, ingenuity and intellect and share memories of the far-off places that I traveled to find them. I want to hold my family closer and shoo away those who are “classless” enough to judge them on “class”.

The hidden valleys of far-off places with immortalized history and art is losing the waging war against the suites and spas of well-endowed cities. The age-old whiskeys and expensive wine bottles hold promise of Utopian nights. Nature holds promise of well-being and beautiful days. Each part of the coin is essential in life. We just have to make sure that we don’t beat probability by flicking it to one side every time we toss it.
